People, tags and questions

Three screens the app fills in for you, each a tile on More with a count, and each reached from Home's widgets too. None of them has an add button, because none needs one: a person exists the moment someone writes @name, a tag the moment someone writes #tag, a question the moment someone writes ask.

All three show the folder you are in — the same one Home, Notes and To-dos show, whose path is in the bar at the top of each of these screens too. Tap the path to switch folders; the choice follows you to every tab. A person's own page and a tag's own page still reach across every folder.

People

A person exists from the moment someone writes @name in a note or to-do and saves it. The People screen lists everyone the chosen folder names, filed by family name, with a search box always at the top that finds a person by part of their name, their nickname or their job — "plumber" finds everyone whose job says so. A nickname sits beside the name where one has been set, and the job under it. People named only in other folders are under In other folders when you search, and one line — "3 more in other folders" — opens them otherwise.

A person's page

A person's page opens on Open with them: every open to-do and unanswered question naming them, from every folder, newest first, each with its folder and day — what a one-to-one is prepared from. Under it, every note, to-do and question that names them, shelved by folder with the most recently active folder first, each row with its day. Nickname and job fold into one Add a nickname or job line until one is set. Under those, two shelves reach sideways:

  • Named alongside — the other people named with them in at least two of those texts, most often first. One shared text is left out as coincidence.
  • Same details elsewhere — every phone number, email, link or address from those texts that other notes or to-dos carry too, with those notes and to-dos under it. The plumber's number on the boiler note and on the "call about the leak" to-do, joined up.

From the page a person can be:

  • renamed — nothing in any note is rewritten; the old spelling keeps finding the person;
  • given a nickname, which is what @ then types for them;
  • given a job — "plumber", "the letting agent"; typing one offers the jobs already written for other people;
  • merged with another entry that is the same person — the merge card asks which name to keep, and again nothing in any note changes;
  • removed, once nothing in the household names them any more. Writing the name again makes a new entry.

This is me

This is me on a person's page says that this entry is the account reading it; Not me takes it back. One entry per account. From then on the directory and the page say "you" beside that name, Settings shows it under You, the Mine filters on All to-dos, the calendar and Questions mean that person, and the assistant is told who is typing.

Tags

Tags lists every #tag in use and, for each, everything carrying it. A tag that matches a folder's name opens the folder instead, so #kitchen on a note filed under Kitchen goes where you would expect.

Questions

Questions collects every ask line from every note: open questions first, then answered ones. Its open count shows on Home's Questions widget and nowhere else, and it counts the folder you are in.

A question someone else asked says who — "from Maya" — beside who it is for. When it is answered, the person who asked sees the answer at the top of the Questions card on their Home for a day, with who gave it, as well as on the line in the note. A question is answered by a person typing the answer — Answer on its row here, or an answer: line directly under the question in the note that asked it (see Notes) — and the answer is written back into the note, onto the line that asked. Go to note, beside Answer, goes to that note. A question nobody is going to answer can be archived instead, from the archive box on its row, with Undo on the bar that follows. It leaves every list and count and goes to an Archived shelf at the bottom of Questions, where it can be restored or deleted. Deleting is offered only there, and the note that asked it is not rewritten either way.
